The project

The project consists on the validation and introduction into the market of an innovative filtration solution to treat and reuse the so called produced water (PW), a highly polluted oily wastewater which constitutes the largest volume byproduct associated to O&G production (average water to oil ratio – WOR – of 3:1) with main constituents being oil and grease/hydrocarbons, suspended solids, salinity and bacteria.

Objetives

01. To reduce significantly the target membrane price, thanks to the upscaling of the process and the manufacture of membranes with bigger specific filtration area. As a result, the required investment for the whole PW-treatment system will decrease up to 40%.

02. Increasing the production capacity of ceramic nanomembranes. The innovative production process has been implemented and protected, but a massive market access requires an optimization of the final product to make it more cost-effective as well as an increase in production capacity.

03. Launching worldwide highly competitive and cost-effective ceramic membrane-based filtration solutions for the treatment and reuse of PW in the O&G industry. This includes innovative ceramic nanomembranes for oil/water separation, equipment and instrumentation and proprietary advanced monitoring and control tools. Thanks to these new products, up to 80% reduction in water demand for O&G production will be possible, saving on average $8 per barrel of oil. The technology provides high-quality water (<1 ppm oil, free of bacteria), low footprint (300-500 m3/m2day), minimum waste generation (even below 0.5%) and reduced energy consumption (as low as 0.5 kWh/m3).

04. International consolidation of the company through the new subsidiaries and strategic partners in high potential markets.

With proprietary membranes as core technology, Likuid has developed and validated the filtration system including the innovative nanomembranes for oil/water separation, selfcleaning devices, with engineered backpulse tools, and the advanced CleanFlux® software, updated and improved in collaboration with the Modelling and Control Area of the Environmental Engineering Unit of CEIT-IK4 Research Institute.

The cost of managing PW plays a key role in the profitability of O&G production wells, and the factors that will differentiate Likuid’s solution are mainly related to the high effluent quality and excellent technical features of the system, that ultimately allow to reduce the oil production costs related to water consumption/treatment.
